The Star Sydney to Host WSOP International Circuit Event

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) is heading to Sydney for the very first time with The Star Sydney to host a WSOP Circuit Event from 22 November to 12 December 2016.

Comprising 11 tournaments in 21 days including the $2,000 Main Event, players will not only have the chance to compete for big prize money but winners of each of the event will win a prized official WSOP gold ring.

Two players – the Main Event winner and the overall Casino Champion – will also win a seat into the 2017 WSOP Global Casino Championship, which is an official WSOP gold bracelet event and boasts a guaranteed US$1 million prize pool. Casino Champion will be the player that accrues the most points based on their performances across the 11 official WSOP ring events on the schedule.

The WSOP is the most recognised and revered tournament brand in poker. First held in 1970 when Las Vegas icon Benny Binion invited seven of the country’s best players to compete across a series of cash games, it has since evolved into an annual festival of poker with the 2016 WSOP attracting more than 100,000 players across 69 bracelet events at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

Why Do The Best Passing NFL Teams Suck?

Time and again you’ll hear people say that the NFL is a quarterback’s league. This is true to a large extent. They’re the faces of most franchises, the highest paid players on average and the most pivotal part of any team’s overall success. That doesn’t mean that they’re the most important element to consider when betting on spreads.

I was looking at the top quarterbacks in the league so far by the numbers purely out of curiosity. When I went through the list, all I could think was “these teams aren’t winning games”. That turned out to be very true. Only three of the top ten passers so far have winning records over a three week sample size.

Here’s the list:

Mammoth new DDoS attacks harness thousands of Internet of Things devices

A new type of DDoS attack is worrying internet security experts and could have serious ramifications for online gambling sites.

Last week, digital security news portal KrebsOnSecurity was knocked offline for 24 hours after an unknown attacker hit the site with what was believed to be a 620-gigabit-per-second (Gbps) distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, which would make it the largest DDoS attack on record.

Except these attacks were reportedly followed days later by even larger attacks on a French web host. Octave Klaba, founder and CTO of hosting company OVH, reported that his company was hit by two attacks, the first one reaching an astounding 1.1 terabits-per-second (Tbps).

The common thread linking the OVH and KrebsOnSecurity attacks were the use of a botnet that appeared to harness the power of thousands of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, including security cameras and digital video recorders. Klaba estimated that a full-bore attack by this botnet could reach 1.5 Tbps.

Japan’s pro-casino legislators sense opportunity in Komeito party ranks

Japan‘s legislators have made good on their promise to revive their long-stalled push to legalize casino gambling.

On Thursday, senior members of the group of lawmakers who crafted the country’s Integrated Resorts study bill held a meeting to confirm their intention to pass the legislation in the Diet’s current session, which runs until late November.

Japan’s constitution prohibits casino gambling, so legislators must approve a bill that would amend the constitution. Only after that can they get around to passing legislation that would spell out the nuts and bolts of casino licensing and regulation. But despite years of attempts, legislators have been unable to bring the IR study bill up for a vote.

On Thursday, the Yomiuri Shimbun reported that the Diet’s pro-casino faction had been spurred by the August appointment of Toshihiro Nikai as secretary general of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).
