Businessman bets bets big on PHL casino industry, unveils P65B leisure township plan at Entertainment City

Billionaire Andrew Tan and his group are boosting the Philippines’ effort to capture a slice of the world’s casino market with plans to build a P65 billion ($1.4 billion) leisure and entertainment township at the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation’s (Pagcor) Entertainment City.

Called the Westside City, the planned 31-hectare entertainment complex will house the second Resorts World the complex will house the second Resorts World property—Resorts World Bayshore—which is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2020, Megaworld Corp. and Travellers International Hotel announced.

Resorts World Bayshore is the fourth project to open at the Entertainment City, following City of Dreams Manila, Solaire Resort and the soon-to-open Manila Bay Resorts. Resorts World Bayshore is a joint project between Tan’s Alliance Global Group Inc.—the parent of Megaworld and Travellers—and Malaysia’s Genting Group.

“We are very excited to see Westside City rising to be a showcase of Manila as a truly world-class Philippine capital,” Tan said in a statement.
