Colombia’s online gambling licensee roster growing larger

Colombia’s gambling regulator has issued its fourth online gambling license to local operator Colbet.

On Friday, the Coljuegos regulatory body announced that it had awarded an online sports betting license to Botoga-based gambling operator Colbet, which will operate its online sportsbook from the Colbet.co domain.

Colbet announced this summer that it had teamed up with Malta-based sports betting technology provider Airplay to power its new Colombian betting site. To date, Coljuegos has authorized the launch of three other online licensees, including Aquila Global Group’s Wplay.co, Corredor Empressarial’s Betplay.com.co and the Zamba.co joint venture of Vicca Group and GAMING1.

Coljuegos says the five-year license granted to Colbet will be worth a total of COP 10.9b (US $3.7m) to the Colombian government over the length of the contract. Coljuegos contributes a significant portion of its revenues to Colombia’s health care services, and the new regulated online market is expected to give those contributions a hefty boost in the coming years.
