Maryland casinos extend revenue winning streak, but just barely

Maryland casinos maintained their streak of year-on-year gaming revenue increases in October, but only by the slimmest of margins.

Figures released Friday by Maryland Lottery and Gaming show the state’s five casinos earned revenue of $95.5m in October, 0.8% more than the same month last year. This marks the 11th straight month in which the state’s monthly tally has risen year-on-year, although it’s well off the $100m+ peaks the state generated earlier this year.

As always, Maryland Live! topped the revenue charts with $53.2m, although this was 3.2% less than October 2015. Most of the decline came on the slots side, which fell $1.1m year-on-year, while tables were down around $650k. On the flip side, Horseshoe Casino Baltimore earned $26.6m, up 7.9% year-on-year thanks to an additional $2m in table revenue.

As for the also-rans, Hollywood Casino Perryville brought in nearly $6m (-4.1%), while Ocean Downs contributed $4.9m (+6%) and Rocky Gap brought up the rear with $4.7m, although it posted the month’s biggest year-on-year gain at 12.1%.
