Philippine president brings anti-online gambling war to Leisure & Resorts

The dust has yet to settle in PhilWeb but Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte is already on to his next chew toy.

Bloomberg reported that Philippine-listed firm Leisure & Resorts World Corp. (LRWC) is next on Duterte’s list of online-gambling companies he wants to eradicate since he assumed the presidency in July.

Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) chairman Andrea Domingo announced that it won’t issue new permits or renew expiring licenses for electronic platforms of the electronic bingo games.

While the state-regulator did not mention a specific company, it is safe to assume that LRWC will not be spared since it is the Philippines’ largest operator of electronic number games, which controls 35 percent of the archipelago’s bingo market.
