The Rams Return To Los Angeles – A Plan Twenty Years In The Making

The Los Angeles Rams are back. The league voted almost unanimously to return the NFL to the second largest market in the country in immediate fashion. The Rams will be back in southern California for the 2016 season thanks to the painstaking efforts of owner Stan Kroenke.

To many, this is a correction that was two decades in the making. What you might know is that this move has been in the works for a long time. What you might not know is that the league never wanted the Rams to leave Los Angeles in the first place.

In order to understand the whole picture of this sordid tale of quibbling billionaires, you have to take a little trip through history.

Kroenke, a sports business entrepreneur, has been a major stakeholder in the team since their move to St. Louis in 1995. Back then, he had a 40-percent hold in the company. The rest of it belonged to a woman named Georgia Frontiere.

The Rams are back in Los Angeles

After 21 years of waiting for a National Football League (NFL) franchise, used-to-be St Louis Rams is returning home to Los Angeles.

There is no questioning that the National Football League is going to have a franchise based in L.A., as NFL is not the type of entity to let an opportunity to increase its profits and brand awareness slip on the edge. But the real question is, which NFL team ends the NFL’s 21-year absence from the second-largest media market in the US?

NFL owners voted 30-2 Tuesday night to allow the St. Louis Rams to move LA and build a stadium in Inglewood, California. The San Diego Chargers was given a one-year option to share the facility while the Oakland Raiders, who also wanted to move to the area, could move to LA if San Diego doesn’t.

“Relocation is a painful process. It’s painful for the fans, for the communities, for the league in general,” said NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. “In some ways a bittersweet moment, because we were unable to get the kind of facilities done we wanted in their markets.”

Golden State now favored to Break Bulls Single Season Wins Record

The Golden State Warriors may have lost its chance to beat the LA Lakers’ 33-game win streak this year, but they are going to make history one way or another.

The defending NBA champion saw themselves hauled back to reality after suffering an upset to the Milwaukee Bucks last year. This loss stopped their historic run to beat the 33-0 record of the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers.

However, the Warriors are still in good position. The team have already made history by starting the season with 24 straight wins, shattering the previous record of 15 straight wins to start a season held by the 1948-1949 Washington Capitols and 1993-1994 Houston Rockets.

And at the current 36-2 standing, they are well on pace to beat the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls’ 72-10 record. It is just a prediction, but I am pretty confident saying that the Warriors breaking the 72 wins, a record, that most people thought could never be broken, is slowly becoming an inevitability, much like winning another championship.

Messi was up against his fiercest rival Cristiano Ronaldo and teammate Neymar Jr. in the final cut. Messi picked up 41.33% of votes, 27.76% went to Ronaldo, and 7.86% to Neymar Jr.

Cardinals sign Korean pitcher Oh Seung-Hwan amid gambling probe

Nothing is going to stop South Korean pitcher Oh Seung-Hwan from chasing his American baseball dream—not even a punishment from Korea’s top pro baseball league in connection with his gambling escapade in Macau.

The embattled former Samsung Lion player has signed with the St. Louis Cardinals for one year with a club option for a second year, Yahoo! Sports reported on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old, who had 357 career saves, ended his 2015 with 41 saves, and the Cardinals are looking at him “as a reliever who’ll get the ball” to Trevor Rosenthal, the team’s own record-setting closer. Oh’s stellar performance in Japan has earned him two nicknames: “Final Boss” and “Stone Buddha.”

Oh said during Tuesday’s press conference that playing in the major leagues has been a dream that came true for him.

NFL Wildcard Weekend – Green Bay Packers vs. Washington Redskins

Winners of 5 out of 6 games, the National Football Conference Eastern Division Champions Washington Redskins have been playing outstanding ball in the last month and a half. Defensively, in their last 6 appearances this stop unit has held the opponent to an average of 20 points a game while offensively they are banging out an average of 26 points per encounter during this period of time. Those defensive statistics does not tell the hard play the defense has put together in the last part of the season. Here is a perfect example. In their last 6 games, they have held 4 teams to under 100 yards rushing and creating 13 turnovers against pretty strong offenses.

NFL Wildcard Weekend – Seattle Seahawks vs. Minnesota Vikings

The Seattle Seahawks are peaking at the right time winning 6 of their last 7 games by a margin of 207-75. In the last 8 matchups, quarterback Russell Wilson has been unstoppable throwing for 25 touchdowns and only 2 picks along with just 1 fumble. The Seattle Seahawks running game has been more adequate even without their starting rushing back Marshawn Lynch who is a full go for today’s contest. Their running game has been averaging 145 yards per matchup during this period of time. Underappreciated starting wide receiver had a solid season catching 78 passes for 1069 yards along with 14 touchdowns.

NFL Wildcard Weekend – Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Both the Cincinnati Bengals and the Pittsburgh Steelers are dealing with key injuries coming into this playoff game. Since the Bengal starting quarterback Andy Dalton has been sidelined due to injury, his backup A.J. McCarron has a winning record of 2 and 1 completing 66 percent (76 of 115) of his passes for 832 yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions. Facing the Steelers, he completed 22 of 33 passes for 280 yards, 2 TDs and 2 picks. If Pittsburgh running back DeAngelo Williams can’t return due to injury than that will make the Steelers a one-demission offense.

NFL Wildcard Weekend: What You Need To Know About Each Matchup

There’s a billion ways you could look at each of the wild card games. Unlike the regular season, where you can have up to 16 games and 32 teams to keep track of, the focus narrows in the playoffs. Duh.

With that tunnel vision comes some over compensation. We commit a little too hard to things that don’t matter. Suddenly, the expansive interest we have gets spotlighted on to just four games and that can drive us…well…crazy. It doesn’t help that 12 less games in a weekend is 12 fewer investment opportunities.

So let’s clear the noise a bit and dial in on the important elements of each matchup and really, the choice is always up to you. But you’ll see where my money’s probably leaning by the time you’re done reading through. Enjoy and good luck.

LeBron James’ marketing agency breaks up with Johnny Manziel

LeBron James’ marketing agency cut ties with maligned Cleveland Browns’ quarterback Johnny Manziel.

Manziel’s whereabouts last weekend is still a mystery. Was he drinking and gambling in Las Vegas or was he just cuddling with his dog in Ohio while recovering from a concussion he suffered after he rushed for 108 yards in a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs?

But this is where it gets really interesting. ESPN Las Vegas, citing an unnamed source, reported that Manziel was at a Planet Hollywood in Sin City, but he wasn’t himself. Manziel was spotted wearing a blonde wig, a fake mustache, glasses and a hoodie and he introduced himself as “Billy.”

But maybe due to a concussion, he was not able to stay in character and ended up paying with his card and signing the check.
